Strengthening Citizen Engagement: KICK-U Leads Conversations on Electoral Processes

In an exclusive interview held on Saturday, April 20th, 2024, Mr. Nabaasa Barnabas, the SCENE project Focal Person and KICK-U Programs Officer, provided insights into the ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing citizen participation in electoral processes.

During the April to June quarter of 2024, KICK-U, in collaboration with UNNGOF and with generous support from USAID, has been at the forefront of conducting Fireplace conversations and Topowa forum discussions across various communities in Uganda.

Mr. Barnabas highlighted the importance of these engagements in fostering a deeper understanding of citizens' perspectives on the roles and performance of their elected leaders, including local councils, LC 3, LCV, and MPs. The discussions have served as platforms for citizens to voice their expectations and assess the fulfillment of promises made during political campaigns.

Moreover, these dialogues have provided citizens with the opportunity to critically evaluate the performance of service delivery sectors and identify challenges encountered while accessing essential services. By holding leaders accountable for their actions, these discussions contribute to the overall improvement of governance and service delivery in the community.
